4 winners, 100 innovative ideas and a crowd of more than 500 - the futureSAX Innovation Summit 2016
The futureSAX Innovation Summit 2016 marked the highlight of the futureSAX year, when more than 500 people gathered in Dresden for the award ceremony of the futureSAX Startup Competition.
The doors to the event opened at 2 p.m. when all guests were invited by project manager Marina Heimann to discover 70 startups from this year’s competition in the futureSAX Idea Showcase. The showcase was kindly supported by Mittelständische Beteiligungsgesellschaft Sachsen mbH and Bürgschaftsbank Sachsen GmbH. Check out all attendees, which is available also as ebook. But there was more on show: futureSAX-Alumni and Alumni from the Jugend forscht-program introduced their ideas, products and projects in the Alumni Area. A symbiosis of innovation and art was brought to the crowd by „Lightfight“ that enabled everyone to create their own personal picture – painted with the help of nothing but light.
All about interaction were the futureSAX Learning and Mentoring Networks. The Learning Networks focused on 3D-printing technologies and automation and robotics. The Mentoring Networks had marketing, design and legal issues in IP and IT on the agenda. All network sessions were moderated by key experts from the futureSAX network.
The pitch stage in the Show-Area was then ready for start-ups pitching to investors as part of the futureSAX Investor Roadshow. Other pitches centered around innovation projects as part of the futureSAX Innovation exchange live. The Investors Lounge was home to more than 30 one-on-one-Meetings between investors and startups.
Finally, it was time to honour the winners. Everyone was truly excited, when the Saxony State Minister for Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport Martin Dulig took the stage to award the prizes for the 2016 futureSAX Startup Competition and the futureSAX Online Award 2016. „The broad range of ideas and innovation in the competition proves the innovative potential of the economy in Saxony“, highlighted Mr. Dulig. He continued to say: „With the futureSAX startup competition we give a stage to these ideas and provide valuable support to develop them into sustainable concepts. At the same time we want to encourage even more people to be innovative and to invest into innovative ideas.”
Out of more than 80 contestants and two evaluation rounds, these teams came out on top:
1st place – Team „Senorics“ from Dresden
Senorics is moving farming to the next level. Organic electronics is their mission. Stamp-size sensors developed by Senorics allow farmers to measure crop parameters before harvesting. This helps farmers to optimize these parameters by optimizing the time of harvest, leading to higher yields. The team of the Technical University Dresden lead by Dr. Ronny Timmreck scored best in terms of degree of technological innovation, milestone planning and commercial potential. No surprise they took the crown and the prize money of 15,000 Euros.
2nd place – Rhebo AG from Leipzig
The „Rhebo Industrial Protector“ was the product that helped Rhebo to come out 2nd and take a prize money of 10,000 Euros. The Rhebo Industrial Protector is a combination of hard- and software, that controls machine-to-machine communication in production lines. The learning algorithm detects all anomalies and increases machine availability. Truly a product for the 4th industrial revolution.
3rd place – LAVIU GmbH from Freiberg
LAVIU GmbH ranked 3rd, winning a prize money of 5,000 Euros. The young start-up-team lead by engineer Julia Ryssel and designer Martin Cirillo-Schmidt transfered aerospace materials technology to lifestyle. The outcome is the first lovetoy with silent vibrations – patented worldwide.
