„No one can whistle a symphony. It takes an orchestra to play it.“ – the futureSAX-Innovation Summit

A lot of preparation but also anticipation for the annual highlight of the futureSAX year came to an end – on June 25 the futureSAX Innovation Summit took place. More than 550 participants found their way to the DDV-Stadion in Dresden, which served as this year’s venue, matching the simultaneous football World Cup.

Since already Halford E. Luccock knew that “No one can whistle a symphony. It takes an orchestra to play it.“, the numerous guests could enjoy a diverse and exciting framework program by different players from Saxon’s ecosystem for startups and innovations. Over 100 exhibitor, 21 pitches in front of investors, cooperation and project partners, as well as the award ceremony for the best innovations in the futureSAX-Startup Competition 2018, formed an interesting and diversified event for the participants.

The winners of this year’s futureSAX-Startup Competition are wisefood GmbH from Langenbernsdorf (1st prize), Infrasolid GmbH from Dresden (2nd prize) and the team denovoMATRIX (3rd prize). The futureSAX-Audience Award, presented with friendly support by “So geht sächsisch.”, was won by Unimir GmbH, which could gain most of the over 2200 votes with their retrofittable double sun visor SHADE WINGS.

Before the award ceremony the participants could enjoy a colorful framework program. More than 50 participants of the futureSAX-Startup Competition presented their ideas in the Showcase exhibition, which once more was organized with friendly support by Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH/Bürgschaftsbank Sachsen GmbH. Thereby, inspiring and informative conversation was sparkled, not only with the guests, but also between the exhibitors, who could share their experience and knowledge.

Of course, there was again a very diverse program on the show stage. First insights into the different elements of the conference was given in a presentation by futureSAX managing director Marina Heimann and one of the directors of Bürgschaftsbank/Mittelständische Beteiligungsgesellschaft Sachsen mbH Markus H. Michalow, as well as in following interviews.

During the futureSAX-Investor Roadshow, ten innovative founders and startups were looking for capital providers and presented their ideas and projects in three-minute pitches.

In the following futureSAX-Innovation Exchange, eleven selected projects from science and businesses were looking for cooperation partners and proved that the Free State of Saxony has a very diversified science environment and a high potential for innovation.

Also next to the stage there was a lot to see and a great atmosphere. With the motto “Ready to Transfer?”, eleven research institutes presented different hands-on transfer projects. In the startup-area “Ready to start-up?” participants could gather information about the topics “Promotion & Financing”, “Coworking & Infrastructure” and “Incubators and Accelerators”. Furthermore, there was the possibility to receive Quick-Mentoring by the Saxon Mentoring Network, such that the participants could get “coached” by the core teams of Dresden, Leipzig and Chemnitz.

The futureSAX-Alumni, being the representatives of the teams and startups with the best ideas in the past futureSAX competitions – i.e. the “heart” of the futureSAX-familiy, once more exhibited their projects in the Alumni-Area. Thereby, one could not only get to know the twelve nominees of this year’s Startup Competition, but also 14 established companies. Some potential future alumni could also be found here – four winners of the Jugend-forscht Landeswettbewerb 2018 presented their excellent projects.

The futureSAX-family continuously grows and this familial feeling caused the friendly exchange between the particants.

A day full of ideas, transfer, innovations and emotions – this year’s futureSAX Innovation Summit once more was a wonderful and unique event, which was experienced by the futureSAX team together with existing and interested members of the futureSAX-network.

Heartfelt thanks go to all active participants and guests, which contribute with their curiosity and passion to an innovative-friendly Saxony which is lively, diverse and inventive.
